Lake Mead National Recreation Area's central feature is its massive expanse of water, with thousands of acres used for everything from fishing to kayaking to swimming. The startlingly beautiful desert scenery of southern Nevada can be explored on many different scenic hikes and drives, or simply from a shaded picnic area along the waterfront. Campgrounds open year round allow nighttime enjoyment of the park and the Alan Bible Visitor Center gives visitors a deeper understanding of the park, its history and its inhabitants. Covering land in both Nevada and Arizona, the park is due east of Las Vegas, reaching north to the Valley of Fire State Park and south to just before the farthest corner of the Nevada.
Open daily year round. Lake Mead Visitor Center open 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Entrance fee: Vehicles $5; Lake use fee: Boats $10; Campsite fee: $10 per site. Check website for details.
